Challenging Behaviour Course

Aims

• Understand the concept of “challenging behaviour”
• Gain knowledge of the underlying causes of challenging behaviour
• Become familiar with the “Positive Behaviour Support model ”
• Gather relevant information about an individual presenting with challenging behaviour, which can be used in the development of a Behaviour Support Plan

Overview

• Identifying inappropriate behavior presented by an individual with learning disability
• Strategies for dealing with inappropriate behavior
• Defining the concept of “challenging behavior” conflict resolution
• “Positive reinforcement” and “negative reinforcement” : how challenging behaviour can be reinforced positively/negatively
• “Antecedent” and “setting events” – how inappropriate or challenging behaviour is maintained by setting events or antecedents
• The Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence (ABC) model
• Using an ABC chart for recording observations of behaviour
• Goals and values of Positive Behaviour Support
• Developing a Behaviour Support Plan

Duration

• A full day (10am – 4.30pm)

Assessment

• Ongoing assessment throughout the day will be employed throughout the day and full attendance is required to successfully complete the programme and receiving the certificate of attendance

• Training is provided at the clients premises
