Manual Handling Course

This course aims to provide participants with the information and training necessary to be competent in manual handling, in order to avoid injury to themselves and others.

Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• State relevant Irish and EU legislation
• Describe the basic anatomy of the spine
• Outline the injuries caused to the body from poor manual handling techniques
• List the 8 principles of safe lifting
• Demonstrate the correct method to be used when lifting
• Explain how to carry out a risk assessment

Training Methods:

• Multimedia presentation with flipchart exercises throughout
• Group discussions and exercises
• Training records and evaluation forms are also used

Assessment and Certification:

All participants must complete a theory test and a practical examination in lifting techniques to receive certification. The certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of training.

Who should attend?

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application Regulations) 2007, ALL employees are required to attend Manual Handling Training.

Patient Lifting & Handling

This comprehensive 1 day programme is designed to train participants how assist patients/people to move in a hospital, nursing home or home care setting. Up to date techniques are thought to ensure it is safe for the carer and client.

• Fitness & Flexibility
• Ergonomics
• Workplace Assessment
• Principles of moving & handling
• Practical Session 1: Moving & Handling Inanimate Objects
• Practical Session 2: Moving & Handling Patients/People

Who Should Attend?

All staff engaged in lifting and handling patients during their working day.

Training Location:

Training is provided at the clients premises.

1 Day.
